July 20, 2008 Minot, ND Click Here for more information Check our the Upcoming Events link for more happenings According to the Meat Animal Research Center, Gelbvieh is the only breed that reduced mature cow size in its germplasm study between 1973 and 2004.   Crossbreeding with Gelbvieh results in cows that are 30% more productive over their lifetime due to increased fertility , weaning weights, and cow longevity. MARC data shows crossbred cows stay in the herd an average of 1.9 years longer, reducing replacement cost.   In the most recent MARC evaluation, Gelbvieh sired calves had the lowest birth weights of the four major continentals and tied for the top survivability to weaning of all breeds.  The Gelbvieh breed was well-represented at the annual Central Dakota Bull Day, January 26th, in Bismarck. Eight of the 40 pens had Gelbvieh or Gelbvieh-influenced bulls.
